Political prisoner Yatskin goes on hunger strike

December 1, 2021

Political prisoner Ivan Yatskin, who is accused of alleged high treason in the form of espionage, went on a hunger strike due to pressure in the pre-trial detention center. Lawyer Nikolai Polozov reported this via his Facebook page.

“Ukrainian political prisoner Ivan Yatskin is still being transferred. From the Krasnodar Region, he was transported to the notorious for torturing prisoners Saratov Region. Specifically, to pre-trial detention center 1 in Saratov. During the transferring, provocations are systematically carried out against him. For the fact that Ivan Yatskin did not allow in his presence offensive statements against the Ukrainian nation and Ukraine by the FSEP officers, he was subjected to harassment”,- the message said.

All medicines were taken away from Yatskin, the only bag was torn during the search, and there is simply no container to carry his personal belongings. Also, he was forbidden to use the stall and buy water there (the water in the cell is very bad).

“According to the latest information from him (there is practically no connection), Ivan Yatskin went on a hunger strike. Given his state of health, this can be very dangerous. But as he asked to convey, he does not see any other way out”,- the lawyer added.

We remind you that in early December 2019, Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea detained Ivan Yatskin, a resident of Simferopol, on charges of alleged high treason. Subsequently, the man was tramsferred to Moscow. He was arrested until March 16, 2020. Ivan Yatskin's lawyer, Nikolai Polozov, signed a non-disclosure agreement in the so-called case. On May 21, the so-called Supreme Court of the occupied Crimea announced the verdict to political prisoner Ivan Yatskin. The occupants assigned him 11 years in a strict regime colony with one year's restriction of freedom.
