CTRC continues to train people’s diplomats

On Saturday, October 30, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine held the 5th session of the V Academy of Public Diplomacy of the Crimean Tatars. As part of the work, future people’s diplomats were given a lecture on the specifics of international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, as well as on the art of public speaking.

Eskender Bariiev, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, told the activists about the art of public speaking. In particular, the lecturer talked about what needs to be done to make an impressive speech, how to express common values in a speech, how to look effectively on the podium, and also shared tips for preparing a speech. Among the main rules are:

  1. Connecting with your audience by demonstrating that you have common values.
  2. Preparing questions using phrases and words that will be understood by your audience.
  3. Providing only those arguments that are available to the audience.
  4. Naming your opponent directly.
  5. After convincing the audience that your political rival is untenable to solve the problem under discussion, offering your own version and bring it optimally.
  6. Finishing your presentation with a statement of your programmatic goal.

Also, the trainer gave specific structures for preparing a speech for a public event and demonstrated videos with public speeches of politicians from different times.

Borys Babin, Doctor of Law, Professor, Expert of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center spoke about the mechanisms of work with international organizations, in particular, with the European Court of Human Rights. The expert described in detail the peculiarities of filing complaints, gave specific examples from international and Ukrainian practice, and also spoke about the role of the 1950 Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
