The court in the Netherlands announced the decision in the case of Scythian gold

October 26, 2021

On Tuesday, October 26, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal announced the decision on the Scythian gold case and ordered to transfer to Ukraine the exhibits from the Crimean museum, which were transported from the peninsula before the occupation. This was reported by the press service of the court.

“The Allard Pierson Museum (APM) should transfer the so-called Crimean treasures to the state of Ukraine|,- the verdict said.

We remind that before the occupation of Crimea more than 7 years ago, 565 exhibits from the Scythian era were transported from several Crimean museums to the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam. Six months later, they were supposed to return back, but Russian aggression prevented this.

Since the Netherlands did not recognize the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula by Russia, the Pearson Museum did not know how and where to return the exhibits. In December 2016, the District Administrative Court of Amsterdam (Netherlands) ruled that the exhibits of Crimean museums from the collection Crimea – a golden island in the Black Sea (the so-called Scythian gold) should be returned to Ukraine. In spring in 2017, Russia challenged this decision.
