After the occupation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, the political rights of people on the peninsula began to be severely limited through their inconvenient civil position for the Russian Federation. Hundreds of activists found themselves under such repressions, among whom a significant place is occupied by women representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
Due to the decision of April 26, 2016 on recognizing the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people as an extremist organization and prohibiting its activities in the Russian Federation, the rights of 4 members (women) of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, as well as more than 200 members (women) from the system of local and regional Mejlises of the Crimean Tatars were severely violated
In addition, due to the occupation of Crimea, 26 delegates of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people have restrictions in the implementation of representative functions, since there is a threat of their further persecution.
