From the occupation of Crimea to the role of visual language: Freedom Camp continues its work

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine continues the work of the “Freedom Camp” International Summer Camp. The participants were told about the preconditions and consequences of the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, about human rights violations on the peninsula, about the basics of social networks etc.

Iryna Starovytska, Project Manager of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine, told the participants of the "Freedom Camp" about the activities and areas of work of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine.

The Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center informed the participants about the preconditions and consequences of the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. In addition, the expert drew particular attention to the human rights violations in the occupied Crimea. As part of his lecture, the expert showed the short film Crimean Tatars: A Struggle for Survival of the Indigenous People of Crimea prepared by the CTRC, which tells about the events of 2014, about the repressions against the representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people, as well as about human rights violations on the peninsula.

Actor, volunteer, Head of the Mir and Co Foundation Myroslav Hai introduced the activists to the following topics:

Social media and information warfare – information hygiene.

Working with the media. Work in the frame. Public speaking skills.

Professor Borys Babin told the camp participants about the occupation of Crimea in the context of violations of international law. The speaker explained how the term occupation of Crimea differs from annexation of the peninsula. The expert also spoke about the legal status of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and the UN human rights mechanisms for the liberation of Crimea.

Andriy Yermolenko, artist, cartoonist, told the activists of the "Freedom Camp" about the role of visual language and design in international public information campaigns online. Using specific examples, the coach analyzed the symbolism and messages of certain elements on various posters. The participants had the opportunity to work in groups on the creation of information campaigns.
