June 30, 2021

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent a report to the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism Ms. Fionnuala Ni Aolain on the topic Persecution of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people in the occupied Crimea under the guise of fighting terrorism.

“Since 2014, the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea, the Russian Federation has begun an active fight against terrorism and extremism. In fact, this is an instrument for suppressing the non-violent resistance of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of Crimea, professing Islam, who opposed the occupation of their homeland. The occupation authorities launched a campaign to persecute them and form the image of an internal enemy using hate speech, violating fundamental human rights and collective rights, in particular of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people”,- the document says.

In their report, the experts of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center spoke about the most common tools of the fight against Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian activists who oppose the actions of the de facto authorities in Crimea.
