Kyiv does not stop trying to punish the population of Crimea for their legitimate choice – Timokhov

May 21, 2021

On Friday, May 21, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Ilya Timokhov, said that Kyiv does not stop trying to punish the population of Crimea for their legitimate choice, and this, in his opinion, contributes to the growth of international tension. This was reported by the Russian media agency TASS.

“Kyiv's desperate attempts to punish the population of Crimea for their legitimate choice in favor of reunification with Russia continue. The ongoing water blockade of the peninsula could lead to another humanitarian catastrophe with unpredictable consequences. Such actions not only run counter to the norms of international law, but also contribute to the growth of international tension”, – he said.

In addition, Timokhov called the attempted passage of Ukrainian naval vessels in the Kerch Strait in 2018 a provocation that could lead to a new conflict in the Black Sea.
