French MEPs consider the sanctions against them illegal because of the visit to the occupied Crimea

March 26, 2021

French MEPs who visited the occupied Crimea in 2020 believe that the sanctions imposed against them by Ukraine are illegal. This was reported on the website of the French delegation from the Identity and Democracy group.

“MPs Virginie Joron, Philippe Olivier and Jean-Lyn LaCapelle challenge the merits of these sanctions, which are akin to putting pressure on parliamentarians acting within their mandate. This requires, under any circumstances, freedom of movement of deputies and the refusal of any coercion against them”,- the message said.

As a reminder, a delegation of French MEPs earlier arrived on a three-day visit to the occupied Crimea – from June 30 to July 2, 2020. The MEPs visited polling stations in Yalta and Simferopol and checked the voting process on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
