The G7 foreign ministers said that seven years after the illegal annexation of Crimea, they reaffirm their unwavering support and commitment to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. In addition, the countries called on the Russian Federation to end human rights violations on the peninsula.
“We, the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, are united in our condemnation of Russia's continuing actions to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty”,- the statement said.
The countries stressed that they condemn Russia's temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as violations of human rights on the peninsula, especially of the Crimean Tatars.
“We call on Russia to comply with its international obligations, to provide access to international observers and to immediately release all unjustly detained. We in principle welcome Ukraine's initiative to create an International Crimean Platform to consolidate the efforts of the international community on Crimea”,- the statement added.
