France refused to provide information support for illegal excavations in Crimea

February 8, 2021

Representatives of the French scientific community refused to provide information support for the activities of the so-called Russian-French Foundation for Historical Initiatives, which planned to begin large-scale excavations and reburials of participants of the Crimean War of the 19th century on the territory of the occupied Crimea. Earlier, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent letters to the French newspaper Le Figaro with an appeal not to support these actions.

According to the press service of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, representatives of French scientific institutions refused to participate in the so-called international events and information campaigns of the occupying power of the peninsula. So, the plans of the occupiers were thwarted.

We remind that in October 2020, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent letters to the French newspaper Le Figaro and the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, in which it expressed the hope that the publications would not provide informational support for illegal excavations in the occupied territory and would not support racist processes in Crimea. In particular, in its letters, the CTRC provided a historical background and noted that it was the Crimean War that was the Rubicon that made the Crimean Tatars a minority in their homeland.
