“The Human Rights Situation in Crimea Remains Complicated,” Tsymbalyuk

December 11, 2020

On Thursday, December 10, Yevhen Tsymbalyuk, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna, said at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council that the situation with human rights regulation remains challenging in the occupied Crimea.

“In this light, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea remains difficult, as well as abductions, disappearances, intimidation of the local population, torture, and restrictions on freedom of the media. Demographic changes and the militarization of the peninsula are only a part of the general destructive consequences of the annexation of Crimea,” he said.

He stressed that the OSCE and the Council of Europe must "act accordingly to prevent and resolve the current crisis."
