On Friday, December 4, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine held the 17th session of the Crimean Discussion Club on the topic Crimean Platform and other negotiation processes on Crimea. During the event, experts discussed the prerequisites, challenges, risks and prospects for the formation of the Crimean Platform, the role of public, human rights and scientific structures in promoting the work of the platform. Based on the discussion, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center will develop appropriate recommendations for the Ukrainian authorities, in particular, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Speakers at the XVII session were:
– Eskender Bariiev – Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people (moderator);
– Andrii Klymenko – editor-in-chief of the BlackSeaNews portal, head of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs project;
– Oliver Loode – coordinator of the international movement #LiberateCrimea;
– Svitlana Andrushchenko – Doctor of Science, Associate Professor of the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
– Borys Babin – Doctor of Law, Professor, Expert of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center;
– Serhii Sydorenko – the editor of the European Truth media agency.
The Crimean Discussion Club focused on the following questions:
1. The Crimean issue in the political position of Ukraine in 2014-2020.
2. Friends of Crimea in Russian politics regarding the peninsula.
3. Interstate dimension of the activities of the Crimean Platform.
4. Crimean Platform, civil society and expert environment.
The experts discussed the prerequisites, challenges, risks and prospects for the creation of the Crimean Platform, as well as the formation of the agenda of the international summit of the Crimean Platform on the de-occupation of the peninsula, which is scheduled for May 2021.
The participants also analyzed the formation of the information field of the Western media on the Crimean platform, as well as the role of Ukraine's partners and friends in achieving the goals and objectives of the platform.
In addition, the speakers discussed the role and necessity of participation of the public sector, indigenous peoples, their representative bodies, in particular, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in the work of the platform.
Within the framework of the work of the 17th session, proposals were also discussed for non-governmental, human rights, scientific structures to promote the work of the Crimean Platform.
Based on the discussion, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center will develop appropriate recommendations for the Ukrainian authorities, in particular, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
