The US Mission to the UN stated that it is proud to be a co-author of the resolution on human rights in the occupied Crimea and called on the Russian Federation to immediately stop its abuses on the peninsula. This wass reported by the department via its Twitter page.
“The situation there (in Crimea) remains dire as the Russian occupation authorities use force and intimidation to suppress dissent and opposition. The Russian occupation has severely undermined fundamental freedoms of expression, association, religion or belief, as well as peaceful assembly, forcing many to flee. We support the people of Crimea, civil society and human rights defenders who defend these rights”,- the message says.
The United States called on Russia to immediately end abuses in the occupied Crimea, as well as release all Ukrainians unjustly imprisoned for peaceful opposition, and return full control of the peninsula to Ukraine.
We remind that on November 18, the Third Committee of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly approved the fifth draft resolution “The situation with human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine.” 63 countries voted for the corresponding decision, 22 voted against.
