Ukraine urged UNESCO to continue monitoring the situation in the occupied Crimea

On Thursday, October 29, the 11th Informational Meeting dedicated to the situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea was held, during which Ukraine informed the organization about the deterioration of the situation on the peninsula and urged to actively continue monitoring the violations of the rights of Crimeans. The press service of the Foreign Ministry reported about this.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Chairwoman of the National Commission for UNESCO Emine Dzheppar reported on the further significant deterioration of the situation on the occupied peninsula in all spheres of the Organization's interest, including religious persecution of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the violation of the most basic human rights to freedom of the press and expression, the safety of journalists, access to education in their native language, and other violations of international law by the occupying authorities, in particular the Geneva Conventions.

“The First Deputy Minister appealed to UNESCO and its partners with an appeal to continue effective monitoring of the situation in the occupied ARC, where the rights and freedoms, cultural heritage, and other values of UNESCO are under threat as a result of the actions of the occupation authorities. It was noted that Ukraine will do everything possible to protect the cultural heritage in the occupied Crimea in the future”,- the message said.
