Sanctions against Russia must continue – British Ambassador

October 22, 2020

British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency that sanctions against the Russian Federation should continue, because they put a high price for the illegal activities of the occupying country.

“Sanctions must continue because they put a high price on illegal activities. Russia needs to show that the international community supports its commitments. I know this does not sound very exciting. But one of the reasons why I constantly say that Crimea is Ukraine, that the annexation was illegal, it is because it is really important to pronounce it. After all, during this year, the narrative that Russia has been promoting, through the media and politically, aimed to find out if everyone is still as committed to upholding this issue as before”,- she noted.

The ambassador stressed that we must continue to be absolutely clear and consistent in our policy regarding non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.
