RF considers Crimea as a military base – Yaremenko

October 22, 2020

Deputy Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Ihor Yaremenko believes that the Russian Federation considers the occupied Crimea as a military base, and therefore there is an active militarization of the Crimean peninsula.

“This territory is necessary from a military point of view and it is a military base. I would call it (Crimea) “a huge aircraft carrier in the Black Sea basin.” I think that any of the military would confirm this – a very convenient location that allows the use of different components of the armed forces of the Russian Federation to threaten other countries in the region”,- he said.

Yaremenko stressed that this is precisely why there is an active militarization of the Crimean Peninsula, the redevelopment of nuclear facilities, the build-up of both missile potential, aviation potential, and the fleet in the Black Sea region.
