On Tuesday, October 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the start of construction of two naval bases to protect the Black Sea region, to which the Russian Federation has already responded. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, responded that such actions could “negatively affect the atmosphere of stability.”
“We are starting to build two state Ukrainian naval bases to defend the Black Sea region. We are building a Ukrainian army that can defend Ukraine on land, in water, in the air and cyberspace. So that no one else would even have a thought that it is possible to encroach on our sovereignty, territorial integrity, or take away part of the territory from Ukraine without firing a single shot. This will never happen”,- Zelensky said.
According to the Russian TASS agency, Peskov said that, taking into account all the existing realities, this could have quite negative consequences on the whole atmosphere of stability in the Black Sea region.
“Without information, we still cannot say anything clearly. We do not understand what bases we could talk about, we will be able to analyze it when there is all the completeness of information”,- he added.
