Political prisoner Medzhyt Ablyamitov, detained on August 19 in the occupied Crimea, is being held in a pre-trial detention center without any grounds or a procedural decision of the court, since his term of detention expired on October 17. Lawyer Ayder Azamatov reported this via his Facebook page.
“The term of Ablyamitov's detention expired today on 10/17/2020 at 00:00, but he is still being held in jail without any grounds and a procedural decision of the court. According to the file on the case, the official website of the court contains information about all participants in the process, including the data on defender. Even on October 14, a preliminary hearing was held and a date was set for the trial behind closed doors. However, there is nothing about the preventive measure. So the court sees no grounds for further keeping Ablyamitov in the pre-trial detention center”,- the message said.
We remind that on August 19, 2020, the FSB in the occupied Crimea detained 26-year-old Medzhyt Ablyamitov, suspected of allegedly participating in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion. He was charged with committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, for which the punishment is imprisonment for up to fifteen years. On August 20, the man was arrested for 2 months – until October 17, 2020.
