Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a resolution that confirmed the VRU statement regarding the rejected legitimacy of the so-called “local elections” organised by Russia in the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol on September 13. The agency’s press office is reporting:

"In the statement, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine protests against “another so-called local election, illegally organised by the Russian occupation administration in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol on September 13, in particular, "elections of the governor of Sevastopol" and "by-elections of deputies" in the so-called "State Council of the Crimean Republic" and "Local Council of Simferopol,” the message says.

The VRU thanked the international partners, who already voiced their rejection of the so-called local elections' legitimacy and encouraged the members of parliaments of foreign countries and international parliamentary organisations to assess the illegal actions of the Russian Federation.

“The statement also contains an appeal to the democratic countries of the world to strengthen their efforts to end the occupation of Crimea, in particular, by continuing and increasing international political and economic pressure on the Russian Federation”, the agency adds.
