Religion is a weapon for Russia – Yaremenko

September 28, 2020

Deputy Minister for Reintegration of the TOT of Ukraine Ihor Yaremenko said that the Russian Federation uses religion as a weapon in its hybrid war against Ukraine, therefore, sanctions will be introduced against persons who persecute people in the occupied Crimea. The press service of the department reported about this.

“Religion is a weapon for Russia and part of Russia's security. Those who integrate into the system and support the ROC have a chance of survival. Anyone who has a different opinion and does not support the actions of the occupiers are destroyed. This was the case with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, whose last church was closed on the Crimean peninsula, this is how the representatives of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Jehovah's Witnesses and others are persecuted in the temporarily occupied territories”,- the message says.

Yaremenko stressed that the tightening of sanctions is a response to Russia's religious aggression in Crimea and the Donbas. They must be applied to those who are behind religious persecution.
