On Friday, September 25, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Iurii Klymenko, during the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council, spoke about human rights violations in the occupied Crimea: about illegal searches, arrests, religious and racial discrimination of the Crimean Tatar population.
“Iurii Klymenko drew attention to the egregious cases of illegal searches, arrests, religious and racial discrimination of the Crimean Tatar population, political persecution of journalists, public activists who disagree with the occupation of the peninsula, recalled the recent sentences of the Russian court to seven Ukrainian citizens – ethnic Crimean Tatars – for fake charges of terrorist activities”,- the message said.
The representative stressed that Russia's dangerous behavior requires attention from all UN bodies: the Human Rights Council, the General Assembly and the Security Council.
