55 political prisoners of Crimea have been released since the beginning of the occupation of the peninsula – CTRC

After the occupation of Crimea, the Russian Federation, unlawfully using its legislation for political purposes, launched massive repressions against Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists on the peninsula. Detentions and arrests of people have become a regular practice.

The number of people imprisoned in politically motivated cases continues to rise every year.

According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, during the entire period of occupation the number of political prisoners and persecuted people reached 307. 55 people have already been released, of whom 34 are  the representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people:

It is important to emphasize that there are no former political prisoners. We must remember that these people paid for their citizenship and were illegally persecuted by the occupation authorities of the peninsula.
