The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, after the so-called statement of the OHCHR representative regarding the supply of water to the occupied Crimea in an interview with Russian media, contacted the Office of the High Commissioner. The ministry said that their position on the Ukrainian peninsula remains unchanged, and the words of their representative were not given in full.
“The Office of the High Commissioner reported that they were really approached by the RIA News agency on the issue of water supplies to Crimea, to which the media received literally the following answer: the Russian Federation, as the occupying power, bears the main responsibility for providing access to water for protected individuals. As we were told in OHCHR, the words of their representative in the Vedomosti newspaper were not given in full,”,- First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar wrote via her Facebook page.
We will remind that earlier, as reported by the Russian newspaper RIA News, the official representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Elizabeth Trossell stated that Russia bears the main responsibility for ensuring access to water in the occupied Crimea, but Ukraine should share this responsibility.
