The Ukrainian Mission to the UN expressed its deep concern that the temporary occupation of Crimea has led to gross systematic violations of freedom of religion on the peninsula. This was reported via the agency’s Twitter page.
“Dozens of people are imprisoned in Crimea for their religion: members of the Muslim community are persecuted and oppressed. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine is practically destroyed, the main Ukrainian church of the Saint Volodymyr and Olha in Simferopol is seized”,- the message says.
It is noted that Russia, as the occupying power, conducts extensive information propaganda to incite hatred against religious, ethnic and social groups in Crimea.
