On Wednesday, August 19, in the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, a court session was held on the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case, during which a secret prosecution witness was questioned. The witness was confused in his testimony and could hardly describe the political prisoner Riza Omerov, although he knows him personally. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.
“Ablaev told the court that he had been told about the Hizb-ut Tahrir party and had been taught its ideology, but he quickly realized that he did not like it and stopped attending these meetings. At the same time, the witness did not remember what Sukhbet was. He could hardly describe the defendant Riza Omerov, although he claimed that he was familiar with him”,- the message says.
Political prisoner Riza Omerov reminded the witness of criminal responsibility for giving false testimony and promised to find evidence that during the period indicated by the witness today he was not in Bilohirsk at all.
We remind that on June 10 and 11, 2019, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol chose a preventive measure in the form of detention until August 5 to the Crimean Tatars detained after searches – Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Ayder Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleimanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov, Ruslan Mensutov and Lenur Khalilov. Subsequently, their detention was extended several times.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community, international human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupying power of Crimea, in order to end political persecution and cancel previous court decisions.
