52 political prisoners of Crimea have been released since the beginning of the occupation of the peninsula – CTRC

June 1, 2023

After the occupation of Crimea, the Russian Federation, illegally using its legislation for political purposes, launched mass repressions on the peninsula against Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists. Detentions and arrests of people have become a regular practice.

The number of people deprived of their liberty in politically motivated cases continues to grow every year.

According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, over the entire period of occupation, the number of political prisoners and persecuted reached 288. 52 people have already been released, 33 of them are representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people:

It is important to emphasize that there are no former political prisoners. We must remember that these people paid the price for their civic position and were illegally persecuted by the occupying authorities of the peninsula.

We remind you that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center on its website classified and developed clickable charts Victims of the occupation of Crimea, which constantly display the actual number of political prisoners, missing and dead people during the period of the occupation of Crimea.
