The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea announced a change in suspicion to a former SBU officer who had previously abducted and tortured Crimean Tatar activist Renat Paralamov. In the course of the investigation, evidence was obtained of the suspect’s involvement in violations of the requirements of Article 147 of the 1949 Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. The press service of the department reported.

“The investigation established that in September 2017, on the territory of the occupied peninsula, an “FSB officer”, together with his accomplices, after an illegal search of his dwelling, kidnapped a Crimean Tatar activist and illegally deprived him of his freedom. To force the victim to admit his guilt in a crime he did not committed, the so-called law enforcement officers resorted to inflicting pain and torture, using, inter alia, electric current”,- the message said.

It is noted that during the investigation evidence was obtained of the involvement of the aforementioned FSB officer in violations of the requirements of Article 147 of the 1949 Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Illegal Imprisonment and Torture).

We remind that on the morning of September 13, 2018, in the Crimean village of Nyzhniohirskyy in the house of the Crimean resident Renat Paralamov, a search was carried out, which the security officials called “examination and investigative actions.” The lawyer suggested that the so-called examination may be related to the religious activity of Paralamov. According to eyewitnesses, people wearing masks without identification marks on their uniforms took Paralamov away in an unknown direction. He only got in touch on September 14. He was found at the bus station in Simferopol. Later, in a commentary for Crimea.Realities Paralamov said that “unknown individuals tortured him, put a sack on his head, hit him with bare wires.”
