The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to temporarily suspend the operation of the checkpoint between the Kherson region and the occupied Crimea from August 9 to August 30, 2020. Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleh Nemchynov wrote about this via his Facebook page.

“An extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine took place today. The government made a decision to temporarily suspend the work of checkpoints of entry to and exit from the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol”,- the minister said.

Nemchynov notes that the decision is aimed at preventing the spread in Ukraine of the acute respiratory disease COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus

The Minister of the Cabinet also indicated that those citizens of Ukraine and their family members who are registered and permanently reside in Crimea or Sevastopol and have property there are allowed to enter the peninsula through the administrative border.

Ukrainians who do not permanently reside in Crimea, when leaving the peninsula through the administrative border, must install the application on their phone “Dii vdoma” and agree to self-isolation.

The restrictions do not apply to individuals crossing the administrative border in order to ensure the protection of national interests or in connection with the fulfillment of international obligations, representatives of diplomatic institutions and humanitarian missions leaving Crimea.

According to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers, the departure of other categories of foreigners and stateless individuals from Crimea is carried out in agreement with the Ministry for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Cabinet of Ministers should revise the mode of operation of checkpoints of entry into the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol in connection with the rapid increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection COVID-19.
