The Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Ukraine Claude Wild said in an interview for the Den mmedia agency that the occupation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine are a major security crisis for the entire European system. Switzerland will never recognize the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula, as it is contrary to international law.
“Therefore, the occupation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine is a big security crisis for the entire European system. After all, the red lines were crossed and this is unacceptable in terms of observing international law and the conflict that is taking place on your territory, as well as waging a hybrid war and maintaining the atmosphere of permanent destabilization of the situation in Ukraine”,- the ambassador said.
Claude Wild noted that Switzerland's position on Crimea is very clear: “this is an annexation, which we do not recognize, because it is contrary to international law.” He stressed that de facto, this is an occupation, and the Geneva Convention should be applied here.
“Since there is no UN Security Council resolution due to the fact that there is a veto on the part of the Russian Federation, we can only join the sanctions adopted by the UN. This is our policy”,- the ambassador added.
