The defendant in the so-called second Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Remzi Bekirov, is kept in a special block of the Russian pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don under 24-hour video surveillance. The reasons for the tightening of the detention regime are unknown. The Crimean Tatar Resource Center was informed about this by his wife Khalide.
“He was transferred to a special block, where conditions are harsher, 24-hour video surveillance, terrible conditions in the cell. Officially, the reason is not announced, but he has been there for several months”,- she said.
Speaking about health, the spouse noted that it does not improve in any way due to lack of sunlight, lack of calcium, dairy products and any vitamins in his diet. And with the beginning of summer, the political prisoner started having problems with his skin due to the terrible heat and stuffiness, he is allowed to take a shower only once a week.
Khalide also stressed that after almost a year and a half, she and her husband did not have an official date.
“For a year and a half, my husband has been in jail, and so far we have not been given a single official date to which we have the right. I continue to write requests for dates, but our rights are violated even in this sphere. There are no refusals. My statements are simply ignored”,- she explained.
In addition, the wife said that one of her last parcels arrived in the pre-trial detention center several days before, but it was not picked up from the post office for three weeks.
“Perhaps this is revenge on political prisoners for their refusal to vote for amendments to the Russian Constitution, or perhaps just a careless attitude”,- Khalide added.
We remind that on March 27, 2019, Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea carried out mass searches in 26 Crimean Tatars' dwellings. Literature was seized from some activists, which, according to Crimean Solidarity, the security forces planted themselves. In addition to books and brochures, people were confiscated phones, tablets, laptops, passports. The servicemen behaved rudely. It is reported that they used physical force against detainees and entered the houses in shoes. Lawyers who arrived at the site of the searches were not allowed to contact the detainees. According to the results of the searches, 20 people were suspected of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is banned in the Russian Federation. On March 28, three more Crimean Tatar activists were detained, in whose dwellings searches were carried out in their absence. On March 27-28, the occupation court arrested all 23 detainees after searches. They chose a preventive measure in the form of detention. Subsequently, all the individuals involved in this so-called case were repeatedly extended the terms of their arrest.
