On Wednesday, August 5, on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Stalinist Terror, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that the inhumane repression of freedom of speech and expression of views did not become not a thing of the past with the collapse of the USSR. The department noted that the cult of Stalin is being actively revived in Russia, and mass repressions continue on the territory of the occupied Crimea. The press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.
“Unfortunately, the inhumane repression of freedom of speech and expression did not become a thing of the past with the collapse of the USSR. Today the cult of Stalin is being actively revived in Russia, and the policy of historical memory is aimed at suppressing, belittling or justifying the crimes of the Soviet regime. Moreover, repression in the spirit of the Stalinist NKVD continue today”,- the message said.
It is noted that Russia is carrying out massive repressions on the territory of the occupied peninsula. Murders, disappearances, arrests, unfair trials and brutal torture have become a common practice there. An entire nation – the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of the peninsula – fell victim to persecution in Crimea.
