August 3, 2020

Ukraine’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, Ievhen Tsymbaliuk, during a speech at the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, said that the Russian Federation continues to restrict the freedom of movement of Crimean residents under the guise of coronavirus infection.

It is noted that under the pretext of combating the COVID-19 disease, citizens of Ukraine who permanently reside in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in the city of Sevastopol can leave Crimea and return only once. And the residents of the peninsula who refused to obtain a Russian passport are considered foreigners and can leave only without the possibility of returning to Crimea.

“In addition to these restrictions on freedom of movement, the Russian occupation authorities began to impose fines on residents of Crimea for presenting Ukrainian passports when crossing the administrative border with occupied Crimea. According to reports, the occupation authorities require only Russian passports to be used for admission”,- Tsymbaliuk stressed.

Ukraine's representative to international organizations in Vienna also called on the international community to deal with the situation with human rights and fundamental freedoms in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
