The world celebrates the International Day of Indigenous Peoples on August 9 (video)

Every year the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is observed on August 9. It was approved by the resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1994. There are an estimated 370 million indigenous people in the world, living across 90 countries.

One of the indigenous peoples of the world is the Crimean Tatar people, that is subjected to regular pressure and repression by the Russian authorities. In April-May this year, at the 16th UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, representatives of indigenous peoples from all over the world supported the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.

The team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center congratulates on the International Day of Indigenous Peoples of the World and presents a video clip prepared in the framework of the 16th Forum.

Today, August 9, the "Crimean Evening", organized by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, will take place in the American House in Kiev. In the frame of the event, a concert of the Crimean Tatar songs and dances will be held, an exhibition on the ethnogenesis, history and culture of the Crimean Tatar people in English prepared by the Estonian Institute for Human Rights, the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia wil be presented.
