July 30, 2020

Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevich and his Deputies Dariia Svyrydova and Tamila Tasheva met with the Head of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience Olena Bohdan, during which they discussed the problem of the destruction of the cultural, national and religious diversity of Crimea by the invaders. The press service of the department reports.

“The occupation authorities of the Russian Federation continue the systematic liquidation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Crimea. Having seized the churches in Sevastopol and Perevalny in 2014, liquidating many other parishes on the peninsula, they continue the systematic destruction of the Ukrainian cultural and religious community in the occupied Crimea”,- Svyrydova said.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed joint actions of state authorities in Ukraine to protect religious freedoms in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as issues of preserving ethnic diversity and protecting the rights of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
