The NUJU calls on journalists from all over the world to show solidarity with political prisoner Ruslan Suleymanov

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine expressed condolences to political prisoner Ruslan Suleymanov in connection with the death of his three-year-old son Musa and called on all journalists to show solidarity with him and other Crimean Tatar civil journalists who are fighting for freedom of speech these days.

"The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine expresses deep condolences to the Suleymanov family and once again emphasizes the illegality of the persecution of Crimean Tatar civil journalists by the occupation authorities of Crimea. We call on all Ukrainian journalists and our colleagues in other countries to show solidarity with Ruslan Suleymanov and other Crimean Tatar civil journalists these days. support their struggle for freedom of speech,"- the message says.

The NUJU reminded that 11 Crimean Tatar journalists are being prosecuted by Russian courts for their journalistic activities – Server Mustafayev, Timur Ibragimov, Marlen Asanov, Seyran Saliiev, Remzi Bekirov, Ruslan Suleymanov, Osman Arifmemetov, Rustem Sheykhaliev, and Nariman Memedeminov, Ernes Ametov and Amet Suleymanov.

Recall that on July 24, 2020, in the village of Stroganovka, Simferopol region of the occupied Crimea, a three-year-old Crimean Tatar Musa Suleymanov disappeared. The child played near the house with his elder sister and was left without adult supervision for 10-15 minutes, because his sick grandmother called his mother. On July 26, 2020, after a day and a half of active searches, the boy's body was found in a drain pit near the house.
