On Thursday, July 16, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Chairperson of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO Emine Dzheppar, during a meeting of the heads of the sectors of the National Commission, stated that Ukraine, in the context of Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea, will continue to draw UNESCO’s attention to acute problems on the territory of the peninsula.
“Emine Dzheppar noted that in the conditions of the illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia, the priority direction of Ukraine's activities in UNESCO will continue to use the Organization's capabilities to draw the attention of the international community to acute problems on the territory of the temporarily occupied peninsula”,- the statement said.
In addition, the importance of regularly informing UNESCO about the destructive actions of the Russian occupation authorities in the occupied Crimea, threatening the preservation of the universal cultural and historical value of Ukrainian cultural heritage sites, conducting illegal archaeological excavations, violating the educational and cultural rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, preventing the free circulation of the media, harassment of journalists and other things alike were mentioned.
