The defendant involved in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” Arsen Abkhairov is in the special unit – wife

July 10, 2020

The defendant in the so-called Krasnohvardiiske Hizb ut-Tahrir case Arsen Abkhairov is in the special unit of the Russian pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don and under video surveillance 24/7. The Crimean Tatar Resource Center was informed about this by his wife Azize.

“My husband is currently being held in the same special unit block, designed for two people. The conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center are complete unsanitary, lack of ventilation, a small stuffy cell designed for two people, which is impossible to stay in, especially during hot weather”,- she said.

As for the coronavirus pandemic, no measures were taken in the pre-trial detention center to prevent infection: no antiseptics, no gloves, no masks were given out. They said that a political prisoner should provide himself with protective equipment through the FSIN store.

“Of course, the state of health in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center worsens even more. His teeth problems worsened, they began to crumble, his front teeth fell out. No one provides any qualified dental care in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center, the maximum they do is pull out the tooth and put in a filling, which falls out in the evening. And then, such help is very rarely provided”,- the spouse explained, adding that even parcels with medicines are not transmitted.

Azize noted that everyone has long understood that these are politically motivated cases, where the outcome has long been determined, and court hearings are just a confirmation of the trial. Despite this, Arsen does not despair and continues to fight.

“At every opportunity, my husband thanks everyone who helps his family, with programs, letters, feels everyone’s support and believes that only together, holding each other, helping each other, we can stop the persecution that touched the Muslim Crimean Tatars today”,- she added.

We remind that on February 14, 2019, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the dwellings of Crimean Tatars in the village of Oktiabr of Krasnohvardiiske district. Three men were detained and taken to the FSB. Criminal proceedings were instituted against them on suspicion of organizing and participating in the activities of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation.

On February 15, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol arrested Eskender Abdulhaniev, Rustem Emiruseinov and Arsen Abkhairov detained after the aforementioned search on suspicion of their participation in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is banned in Russia.
