Ukraine demands from the Russian Federation to stop detaining Crimeans for political reasons

July 8, 2020

The Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN in connection with the mass searches on July 7 requires the Russian Federation to immediately stop detaining Crimeans for political reasons, and also calls on the UN Secretary General to respond to the illegal actions of the occupants. This is stated in the message on the page of the representative office on Facebook.

“International law prohibits arbitrary interference with a person’s privacy and home. Russia, as an occupying power, must cease detaining Crimean residents for politically motivated grounds. The human rights of protected persons must be guaranteed”,- the statement emphasized.

The Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN calls on the UN Secretary-General to react to the ongoing deterioration of the human rights situation in the occupied Crimea.

We remind that on July 7, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the dwellings of Crimean Tatars in the Bakhchisaray, Krasnohvardiiske and Simferopol regions of the occupied Crimea. Seven people were detained. All were taken to the FSB in Simferopol.
