July 2, 2020

During an interactive dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva, Iurii Klymenko, called on the international community to take more decisive action to force Russia to fulfill its obligations under international law. This was reported by the press service of the representative office.

Klymenko once again drew attention to the continuing gross violations by Russia of human rights and international humanitarian law in the occupied Crimea: the persecution of the indigenous people of Crimea, the forced recruitment of local youth into the armed forces of the Russian Federation, illegal passportization, forced deportation in order to change the demographic composition of the population.

In addition, the Permanent Representative strongly condemned the attempts of the Russian Federation to legitimize the illegal occupation of the ARC by any means, including by holding a so-called referendum on the amendments to the Russian constitution in the occupied territories.

“Iurii Klymenko called on the international community and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to take more decisive actions to force Russia to fulfill its obligations under international law”,- the report said.
