July 2, 2020

The representative of the EU on foreign and security policy Peter Stano in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine media agency said that the European Union does not recognize the holding of a referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation on the territory of the peninsula, which is part of Ukraine.

“The EU does not recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia, which is a violation of international law. Therefore, the EU does not recognize the holding of referendum by Russia on the territory of the peninsula, which is part of Ukraine”,- Stano said.

In addition, the EU representative stressed that the owners of Russian passports issued in areas that are currently not under the control of the Ukrainian government, contrary to the Minsk agreements, should not take part in the elections or referenda organized by the Russian Federation.
