If we ask for compensation for Crimea, we will recognize its annexation – Kuleba

July 1, 2020

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, in an interview with Crimea.Realities media agency, emphasized that Ukraine does not need compensation payments from the Russian Federation for the annexation of Crimea, since this contradicts the country’s strategy, according to which temporary illegal occupation takes place.

“Do you want us to recognize the illegal occupation, ask for compensation for this? Or how? Like – pay the money and everything will be fine? No! The strategy is completely different. We say that there is a temporary illegal occupation. Emphasizing that this a temporary phenomenon, it’s illegal and that it’s an occupation under international law. This is the starting position with which we are working to finally end this occupation”,- he said.

Kuleba explained that companies have the right to sue, but the key task of the state is to “keep this framework – temporary illegal occupation.”
