The representative of Ukraine to the EU, Mykola Tochitsky, sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, demanding to adequately respond to the illegal visit of French European Parliament MPs to the occupied Crimea. This was reported by the press service of the department.
“The representative of Ukraine to the EU, Mykola Tochitsky, wrote a letter to the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli and the Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, urging to strongly condemn and respond appropriately to the illegal visit of French European Parliament MPs to the occupied Crimea”,- the statement said.
Tochitsky emphasized that such a visit by individual French MPs not only violates the laws of Ukraine, but also contradicts the official position of the European Union on unconditional support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“Since 2014, the European Parliament in numerous resolutions has repeatedly emphasized unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The failure to recognize the attempted annexation of Crimea, the human rights situation and the militarization of the peninsula are constantly on its agenda. Therefore, I am convinced that the European Parliament should not be part of Russia's hybrid attempts to legitimize the attempted annexation of Crimea and barbaric policies towards independent countries”,- he added.
