On Monday, June 29, in the occupied Crimea, a so-called trial began on the chairman of the Sudak regional mejlis, Ilver Ametov, who during the search in September 2019 had his old weapons exhibits seized from the home museum. He has been collecting artifacts for over 20 years. Now the Crimean Tatar is accused of Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms, their main parts, ammunition). It is reported by the Crimean solidarity public association.
“Today the first so-called court session took place, but the consideration of the case on the merits was postponed, because the lawyer by agreement, Alexey Rostovtsev, did not appear in the trial. He is engaged in another lawsuit and his principal has not been duly notified. According to Ilver Ametov, he did not receive a notification about the date appointed by the so-called court within the deadlines established by law. The next so-called court session is scheduled for July 27, almost a month later”,- the report said.
Earlier, the defense of Ilver Ametov tried to return antique weapons, which were seized during the search.
“Now we are finding out information about the protocol on the illegal possession of weapons that Ametov is charged with. As we have learned, the authority that issues weapons licensing is a bit of a dead end. Because the legislative framework does not provide for the acquisition of weapons until 2017, it turns out that Ametov acquired it in the early 90s. Documents and checks were not preserved. Therefore, it is impossible to say that he violated the terms of licensing. Therefore, neither the licensing authority nor the police department can draw up a protocol because they do not see the corpus delicti. Therefore, the case is a little hung up”,- said lawyer Lenura Ienhulatova in a commentary for the Crimea.Realities media agency.
