On Thursday, June 4, the so-called Supreme Court of Crimea revised the verdict of the so-called Yalta City Court in respect of the Crimean citizen Artem Gerasimov and replaced the previously imposed fine with a 6-year imprisonment. The man is accused of organizing the activities of the religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Artem Gerasimov was taken into custody in the courtroom.
We remind that in March 2019 in Yalta, FSB officers searched people suspected of participating in the religious organization Jehovah's Witnesses, banned in Russia. A criminal case was opened against a 34-year-old resident of Yalta, Artem Gerasimov .
On March 5, 2020, the so-called Yalta City Court found the man guilty of organizing the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization and imposed a fine of 400 thousand rubles on him. The so-called prosecutor requested 6.5 years of imprisonment for him in a penal colony.
We also remind that in March 2020, the so-called Dzhankoy District Court sentenced Serhii Filatov to 6 years in a penal colony with a 1-year probation for organizing and participating in the religious organization Jehovah's Witnesses. The appeal of the sentence was dismissed.
