There is a clear manipulation of our citizenship – political prisoners on court sessions

June 3, 2020

On Wednesday, June 3, in the Southern District Military Court of the city of Rostov-on-Don, a court session was held on the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case, during which political prisoners stated that there is an explicit manipulation of their citizenship: according to the Russian legislation, they are Russian citizens, but when it comes to the fact that the defendants may hide, they recall Ukrainian citizenship. It is reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.

“There is also a clear manipulation of our citizenship. When the charge is brought, they tell us that we are Russian citizens and will judge us according to the laws of the Russian Federation, but when it comes to the fact that we may hide, they immediately say that we have Ukrainian citizenship. All of this this points to a politically motivated case. I also want to note that our case is one of the shortest in duration, as the investigators themselves said that there was an order from above not to delay this case”,- said political prisoner Ayder Dzhepparov.

We remind that on June 10, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the dwellings of Crimean Tatars in Alushta, Bilohirsk and Simferopol. As a result, 8 people were detained on suspicion of their involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation. On June 10 and 11, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol chose a preventive measure in the form of detention until August 5 for the Crimean Tatars detained after searches – Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Ayder Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleimanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov, Ruslan Mensutov and Lenur Khalilov.
