Russian Ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova said that about 30 Russian citizens have become “prisoners of conscience” abroad because of “non-recognition of the status of Crimea or because of sanctions.” This was reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

“Today, according to the most conservative estimates, about 30 Russian citizens abroad became “prisoners of conscience.” In our understanding, they did not commit socially dangerous acts, but were prosecuted, for example, on grounds of not recognizing the status of Crimea or because of sanctions, speaking about the geography of these cases, it is primarily Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the United States”,- said the Russian Ombudswoman.

Moskalkova wants to make a complete list of Russians, “who are incarcerated abroad and need help.”
