Russian security forces detained Crimean Tatar on the border with Crimea

On Saturday, May 23, Russian security forces detained an elderly Crimean Tatar, Dilyaver Memetov, born in 1959, on the administrative border with the occupied Crimea. They tried to take fingerprints from a man. Later he was taken to the service unit of the so-called department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dzhankoy. It is reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.

“At 16.00 at the checkpoint near Dzhankoy (Chonhar), an elderly Crimean Tatar, born in 1959, Dilyaver Memetov, was detained. He was registered in Alushta, but recently he worked in Ukraine”,- the statement said.

The service unit of the so-called department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dzhankoy confirmed that Dilyaver Memetov was being held in the building of the so-called police. However, they refused to comment on the reasons for the detention and for how long his freedom will be limited. Lawyers Nazim Sheikhmambetov and Emil Kurbedinov left Simferopol to provide legal assistance.
