Volunteers of the occupied Crimea call for help in saving dolphins

May 5, 2020

Volunteers of the Russian Center for the Study, Rescue and Rehabilitation of Marine Mammals “Tranquil Sea” reported that in April in the occupied Crimea 127 dolphins were washed ashore, most of them suffered from serious diseases. Activists urge society to help save them.

“In April alone, we took into account 127 cases of dolphins washed ashore,  including captured pregnant females (porpoise and bottlenose dolphins) in the late stages. Soon, as in previous years, many lonely babies are expected to live alone, who have no chance to survive without help, and adult (sick and injured) animals, and enter the bays and shallow water”,- the report said.

It is noted that many cetaceans being washed ashore die from serious diseases, "our direct responsibility is to ensure that the percentage of survivors becomes larger."

“The Black Sea porpoise is listed in the Red Book with the status of “endangered”, and we should not allow their babies to die as soon as they see the light. Sometimes we have to deal with consequences, not reasons, but they cannot be ignored . You can support us”,- the activists added.
