After the occupation of Crimea, the Russian Federation, illegally using its legislation for political purposes, launched mass repressions on the peninsula against the Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists. Detentions and arrests of people have been conducted regularly. The number of people deprived of their liberty in politically motivated cases continues to grow every year. According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, over the entire period of the occupation, the number of political prisoners and the persecuted has reached 190. 44 people have already been released, 29 of them are the representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
