Political prisoner Ivan Yatskin rejected complaint about extension of arrest

April 14, 2020

On Friday, March 13, the Lefortovo District Court dismissed the appeal against the decision to extend the preventive measure to political prisoner Ivan Yatskin, who is accused of allegedly high treason in the form of espionage. He will remain in jail until June 16, 2020. This was reported by lawyer Nikolai Polozov via his Facebook page.

It is noted that the defense drew attention to the conditions of prison healthcare, as well as the state of health of Ivan Yatskin, who has diseases that put his life at substantial risk in case of infection with the virus, but the prosecutor said that he sees no reason to cancel the decision of the court of first instance.

The political prisoner participated in the meeting via videoconference from the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. He was in a mask, but as it turned out, it was issued only before the trial.

“According to him, he feels satisfactory. No special anti-epidemiological measures are carried out at Lefortovo. They disinfect the cell once a week. Half of an onion bulb is given as an antiviral agent for lunch. But the temperature is not measured”,- the report said.

We remind that in early December 2019, Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea detained a resident of Simferopol, Ivan Yatskin, on charges of allegedly high treason. Subsequently, the man was transferred to Moscow. He was arrested until March 16, 2020. Ivan Yatskin’s lawyer, Nikolai Polozov, signed a non-disclosure agreement on the so-called case.
